Extraction of Evidence from Cremation Sites (1 hour)
A practical demonstration and review of the ‘wet sifting’ method developed to recover evidence bones and remains, including teeth, from cremation sites. This involves passing evidence through water while screening for relevant exhibits – this method has been used with great success in Calgary for multiple homicides.

Instructor:
Ian Oxton is a Forensic Identification Specialist for the Calgary Police Service. He has qualified as an expert witness in the disciplines of latent prints, footwear impression evidence and the use of forensic light sources in both Provincial Court and the Court of Queens Bench in Alberta, Canada. He is an IAI Certified Latent Print examiner, a Certified Footwear examiner, and a Member of the Footwear Certification Board. He has completed the Laurentian University Bachelor of Forensic Identification Program. Ian has over 23 years experience with volunteer search and rescue operations in Canada and brought the search skills into Operation Amber to manage the processing of the large crime scene. Prior to immigrating to Canada Ian was a Sergeant in the British Army and served in the UK, Germany, Canada and Bosnia & Herzegovina.
