Wanting to get more involved in the forensic community, but don’t know where to start? The PNWD-IAI has multiple volunteer opportunities for our members to either jump in headfirst and join the board…or test the waters a bit by joining a committee or pitching in with planning or hosting our annual conferences. Below are some of our current volunteer opportunities.
Now Recruiting for the Board of Directors
We have five Board of Directors positions opening in 2022: 2nd Vice President, Sergeant-at-Arms, and 3 Board Members. If you have interest in running for any of these positions, please submit a photograph, short bio, and position of interest via email to email@example.com.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS RESPONSIBILITIES
PRESIDENT – The President presides at all meetings of the Association and acts as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors. This position shall serve as Vice-President the previous year and will serve as Past-President the following year.
VICE PRESIDENT – The Vice-President will fulfill the President’s role of presiding officer in their absence and act as the liaison for the Association website. This position should serve as Second Vice-President the previous year and will serve as President the following year.
SECOND VICE PRESIDENT – The Second Vice-President will fulfill the President’s role of presiding officer in the absence of the President and Vice-President. This position will automatically advance to Vice-President the following year and is a 4 year commitment.
SECRETARY – The Secretary will fulfill the President’s role of presiding officer in the absence of the President, Vice-President, and Second Vice-President. This position is the primary record keeper for the Association and is a 2 year term.
TREASURER – The Treasurer handles all monies and issue membership cards and is a 4 year term.
SERGEANT-AT-ARMS – The Sergeant-at-Arms commands the outer door of the Conference and assists the President in preserving order. This position is a 2 year term.
BOARD MEMBER – Board Members have voting authority as a member of the Board of Directors and will support the board in selecting and planning the annual conference. These positions are 2 year terms.
PUBLICATION COMMITTEE – Individuals assist with gathering newsletter content, developing articles, seeking out interesting features, and editing for the quarterly newsletter.
SCIENCE AND PRACTICE COMMITTEE – Individuals assist with regional outreach to all Regional VPs prior to each conference to gain insight they may have over their region, research regional updates and member publication submissions, share roles or duties associated with the parent body, and establish regional happenings that may influence the PNWD-IAI.
SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE – In 2015, the PNWD-IAI established a Scholarship Fund to provide a financial support opportunity for members who pay their own way toward attending the annual PNWD-IAI conference. Funds are generated through silent auctions and raffles held at the conferences, as well as through private donations throughout the year. Individuals on the scholarship committee recommend the number of scholarships and amount to offer for each year, based on the donations generated from the previous year. The committee then reviews submitted applications and awards the scholarship for upcoming conference years.
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE – Individuals work toward broadening our membership base, expanding membership benefits, increasing member outreach, and work toward streamlining the membership application and renewal processes.
CONFERENCE HELP – Individuals can also assist the Board of Directors in various ways; help the board set up at annual conferences, research local attractions, gather materials to include in attendant packets, and a multitude of additional conference related tasks. This is a great way to get to know the board and our membership better, and discover whether you may have interest in running for a board of director position.
There’s something for everyone! And individual assignments throughout the year are always forthcoming…so please reach out if you have interest in getting more involved with the PNWD-IAI!
